The other day, Emma came home with a love note.
Oh, boy.
I love you emma. Luis T
“Who is Luis T, and why does he love you?,” I asked Emma.
“Mommy,” she said, oh so patiently, “we LIKE each other.”
(Well, the note said LOVE, but…)
“So, you’re just good friends. You’re not going to marry him or anything, right?”
“Well,” she said, “I don’t know yet.”
“You have to wait and see if he lives up to his potential, huh?”
“Yes.”
A long pause as she looked at her love note.
“We sat next to each other at lunch today,” she said.
“Did you?”
“Yes,” she said. “And we were going to play on the playground at recess together. But we did not get to go out there after all. And I was sad. Because, Mommy, he was going to play Spiderman and I was going to play a princess. And he was going to rescue me, Mommy. That’s what he said.”
Well, there you go. Spiderman. Princesses. Daring rescues. And now I can see why she’s considering marrying him.
Well played, Luis T. Well played.
