Yesterday, it was raining really hard when I took the girls to school. The rain was so bad that Ana’s class, which usually meets in a portable building outside the main building, was meeting inside the cafeteria. Because of this, the girls didn’t get to do their normal goodbye routine.
I wasn’t aware that they had a goodbye routine until they mentioned it later.
“Ana had to go to the cafeteria,” Emma said, “so we did not get to hug and kiss each other goodbye.”
“What?” I wasn’t sure I had heard that right.
“Because it was raining, Mommy,” Ana clarified. “And I was in the cafeteria.”
“I got that,” I said. “But the other part. About saying goodbye. Do you usually do that?”
“Yeah,” Ana said. “I walk Emma to her classroom and give her a hug and a kiss.”
“You do?”
“Every day, Mommy,” Emma said. “She does it EVERY day.”
Excuse me a second. Awwwww!
I had no idea this was going on, and I sure don’t know how much longer it will last. But you can bet I’m filing this little tidbit away to remind me of how much they love each other. So thankful that even though they fight like bitter enemies sometimes and seem to have such little regard for one another’s feelings at times… well, they still make a point to do this for each other every day. I’m so glad that they have each other.
So thankful for these sweet girls!
