A Big Summer

Faith Hayes is about to have the biggest summer of her life.
With  a big trip to visit her aunt in Africa, a big VBS at her church, and a lot of big plans to celebrate going from elementary school to middle school in the fall, Faith is ready for all the fun.  But when some big surprises and big disappointments come, she’ll find that her big summer isn’t what she expected it would be.

Ana and Emma have been on me for a long while now about writing another book for them, and I told them I’d get right on that as soon as I had some original ideas.  Then, I gave up on finding original ideas and just used their drama as material.  Will they be thrilled to read that Faith and Gracie get super lice, write their own sandwich romance novel, invent a Hambot, make shrewd observations on denominational polity, threaten national security, and have all kinds of philosophical discussions about kissing boys and what Jesus must think about that?  I’m certain they will.  Thanks for the not-so-fiction fiction, Faulkettes!

If your daughter or granddaughter is around the same age as my girls, she’ll enjoy this book.  There are some heavy topics that you might want to walk through with her, but even those are handled with a lot of care and humor. 

If you’re a reader who doesn’t have children and doesn’t normally read children’s books, you’ll still enjoy this one.  Why?  Because it’s a Jenn Faulk books reunion, y’all.  There are a whole lot of characters showing up to this party.  Faith, Gracie, Chloe, Stephen, Grandma Trish, Sophie, Willem, Sara, Daniel, Ana Marie, Riaan, Marie, Piet, Hennie, Maddie, Kait, Emily, Josh, Jacob, Sadie, Phoebe, Hope, Charity, David, and my personal favorite, Paul Connor.  In Paul’s own words, “Well, glory be!”  Exactly.
