Connor Reece Gain!

So, what would be the greatest entertainment EVER at a baby shower? Dancing toddlers? Cloth diapering demonstration? Or one of the hostesses going into labor?

If you picked the third option, you and my sister think a lot alike, because that’s just what happened yesterday afternoon! Kerry’s water broke during a baby shower she was hosting for a friend, and after just four hours of labor, Connor Reece Gain had arrived! He weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and I’m told that he looks just like his big sister, Kendall. So, in other words, cute, cute, cute!
Kerry was thirty-six weeks along, and as the doctors have said is common with little boys at that stage in development, he’s having some breathing trouble. Kerry and Chris were able to hold him right after he was born, but he was taken to the nursery and then onto the NICU shortly afterwards. Both sets of grandparents have been able to visit him there, and Kendall has gotten to see him as well. It looks like he’ll be in the NICU for a few more days at least so that he doesn’t have to work so hard to catch his breath.
We’re planning to go down to Dallas this afternoon to see the family, although we’re not sure if we’ll be able to see Connor. I’m sure just having his sister and his cousins in the building at the same time will encourage him to improve by leaps and bounds. (On second thought, hearing the girly hysteria that will ensue with all three of them together might encourage him to cling to the sides of that NICU bassinet and refuse to ever leave the hospital. Hmm…)
Please pray that Connor’s lungs will continue to mature and that the difficulties he’s having now will clear up quickly and completely. Pray for my sister and brother-in-law as they attempt to rest up and prepare for his homecoming.
I’ll post another update after we visit the hospital today…
